Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you will be aware and has been widely reported, the cost of food has continued to rise significantly.

We care deeply about the pupils we serve and we have been working hard to manage soaring inflation by absorbing costs and adapting our menus.

Despite our best efforts, the continued, and unprecedented high levels of inflation, now require us to raise the meal price at your child’s school to £2.80.

This increase will ensure that we can continue to deliver a service that meets the School Food Standards.

As always, our menus will continue to provide children a choice of nutritious meals, while catering for those with allergies.

Once again, the decision has not been taken lightly. We will continue to do all that we can to mitigate inflation, and provide you the best value for money.

Please find below the lunch menu from Monday 15th April 2024 - September 2024. Any changes to the menu will be published below.
The school dinner menu is available to be downloaded from here:

November 2023 - March 2024

Chartwells is our catering provider.
The cost of school dinners is £2.80 per day.

Free School Meals

Registering could raise money for Hunnyhill Primary

It’s important to sign up for free school meals if applicable.  Aside from providing your child with a hot nutritious meal each day, registering your child could also raise an extra £1300 for the school from central government to fund valuable support like extra tuition, learning assistants or after school clubs.

Even if you will be sending your child in with a packed lunch initially and do not want your child to receive the free meal, if you think you qualify, we would encourage you to register for free school meals anyway.  By doing so, it will help us to claim an extra £1300 for each qualifying pupil which is money that the school can benefit from and use to fund new equipment or teaching resources for the use of all children.

To register for your child to receive free school meals, please click on the link below which will take you directly into the Isle of Wight Council web page where you can see if you qualify and make your application.

Free School Meals - Service Details (iow.gov.uk)

If you do not receive any qualifying benefits then you do not need to make an application. There are 2 distinct categories – UIFSM (Universal Infant Free School Meals) and FSM (Free School Meals).

Putting it simply, the UFSM schemes provide all primary school pupils with a free school lunch regardless of their family's household income or whether their guardians are in receipt of particular qualifying benefits. Therefore all Early Years children will be provided with a hot meal at no cost to you every day if you wish them to under the UIFSM scheme (and you can decide that each day after they start).

Families who are in receipt of certain benefits can make an additional application for FSM’s which then allows the school to apply for additional funding which will benefit the whole school, and these are the families who need to complete the form.

Thank you.
