Alpha Club members attended the Isle of Wight New Technology Conference at Cowes High School on Tuesday. Alpha Club is Hunnyhill’s technology club that allows our children to explore and comment on new technology before we introduce it to the school. The children are also encouraged to pass on their ICT skills to other children in school. This child to child transfer of knowledge is an important method of diffusing technology across the school.
Taking this child to child teaching a little further we invited a secondary student (year 9) from Cowes High School to introduce and pass on his stop-motion animation skills to Alpha Club. The children produced a video showing how they went about creating animation movies and their finished films.
Our Year 1 children have been looking at Egypt so Alpha Club were asked to pass on their new animation skills to this class. Alpha Club spent an enjoyable afternoon animating with the Year 1 children and this afternoon fun and the movies that resulted were added to our film which was shown at the New Technology Conference.
“On Tuesday we went to Cowes High School and we showed our animation movie. We also talked to teachers about what we enjoyed about ICT. It was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it, especially using the 3D screen. At the end we got a goodie bag each.” – Mara.
Here is our movie we showed at the New Technology Conference
We also made a time-lapse movie while we were at the conference of ourselves and some of the delegates.
