Our technology club is now in full swing and the children have been exploring new and wonderful technology. We always start our after school club with some delicious fruit and refreshing water to get us ready for the exploration ahead.
We have been exploring the world of Lego by constructing a robot and a bird in Lego MindStorm and Lego WeDo. Lego Mindstorm is a little complicated but the Lego WeDo Bird is nearly finished. The bird which is controlled via a USB link to the computer.
We have also been trying out the electronic game SWINXS which was kindly donated by Mrs Bevan. This game has generated some fun activities and very noisy especially when you have to swat flies! Each player has a colour coded writsband and the SWINXS tells the players what to do and detects the children as they pass their wrist bands near the device. We can’t wait to get this game out into the playground.
We have also been “glogging” on the Glogster website and looking at Facebook and You Tube. To understand a little about Social Networking tools and the safe way children and adults can use these tools. There has been lots of posts and comments on our private Alpha Club Blog, discussing what we do and general chit chat on what other activities we are doing during the school week.
We have had a request to look at Microsoft Kodu again and use the webcams to make movies, the fun never stops at Alpha Club!
