ICT Resources - Software

ICT Suite - Technology Day Please find below links to software that you might find useful and fun to use at home. Within school we use a mixture of commercial and free software throughout the curriculum. Where we use commercial software we have tried to list free alternatives in this list. All the software below runs on Windows XP/Vista/7.

We have no control over the content of external websites listed here so the usual Internet Safety advice should be taken by parents/carers.

Microsoft Office 2007

Microsoft Office is the most used set of office applications in the world, children use Excel, Word and PowerPoint across many subjects. Microsoft Office is available at a greatly reduced price for students in full time education, through such companies as Software4Students or direct from Microsoft.

Free alternative: OpenOffice

RM Maths

A commercial personalised learning system for the teaching of Maths. Children have two to three 15 minute sessions per week. The topics they cover and the speed they progress is tailored to the individual child.

Google Earth

Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, from galaxies in outer space to the canyons of the ocean. You can explore rich geographical content, save your toured places and share with others. Best of all its is FREE.

Google Picasa

Another great free tool from Google that the children use to manage and process their digital photographs. Very easy to use and the children have no difficulty cropping, straightening, adjusting colour and removing red-eye.

TUX Typing

A free educational game that allows children to practise their typing skills in a fun environment.

TUX of Math Command

Tux Math is a great program that uses several different playing styles on two different games to help teach children math skills in a fun way.

TUX Paint

This fun drawing game encourages children to be creative and creates a fun environment complete with sound effects. It is a more advanced paint package than the very popular Splosh commercial software used in the school as well.
