I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all back to Hunnyhill after the summer break. I am very honoured to be taking on the Leadership of our school as Headteacher and am keen to continue and build on all our previous achievements.

I would like to invite you to our first ‘Leadership Parent Chat’ on Thursday 20th September at 9am where I will be available to share our vision and an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and ideas.

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Morgan was appointed Assistant Headteacher from September and will support me with the day to day leadership of the school.

We have a few new teaching faces at Hunnyhill – Mrs Cracknell has taken over the role as Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and I will liaise with her to ensure all our pupils and families continue to receive the support they need to succeed. Mrs Cracknell is an experienced SENCo, has worked in both primary and secondary and at both special schools on the Island. Mrs Thomas is joining our Early Years teaching team and is experienced in both Early Years and KS1. Miss Bennett has joined us from another Island primary school and has joined our KS1 team. We are pleased that Miss Cornwell has returned to Hunnyhill after completing her teaching training here 5 years ago and has joined our KS2 team.
I am pleased to say that Mrs Glover has returned to Hunnyhill fit and well and will be teaching French across the school.

Please check our website for all our development days for this academic year and to support parents who need to arrange work hours for school events I will set the school events for this year and publish them within the next few weeks.

Thank you to all the families who signed up to Class Dojo last year, if you have not already signed up please do so asap, class teachers will be contacting you shortly and can support you with this process. We have received positive comments back from parents stating that they found using Class Dojo kept them informed and more involved in their child’s learning. Class Dojo is a secure way of sending private messages to and from the class teacher. Photographs of children’s achievements are also posted along with reminders.
This year we will send home letters via Class Dojo and these will also be available on our school website. Using these methods of communication cuts down on our huge paper usage and will save on our school budget, this money saved can be spent on learning resources.

Thank you to all the families who have followed the school uniform policy, the children looked smart arriving today for the start of the autumn term. The children who have chosen to use the Hunnyhill backpack were very proud to show me today and they fit on our pegs without falling off!

Please bear with us over the next few weeks whilst we set-up our new homework system. Homework will now be set online and can be completed on a mobile device/tablet or laptop. We will be offering free homework clubs for pupils who cannot access the homework from home.

My door is always open, if you would like to meet with me, please see the school office to arrange an appointment.

There will be many exciting learning opportunities coming up over the next year and I look forward to sharing them with you.

Kind regards

Mrs Steedman
