We have saved our school!

The highlight of this school year for me has to be the fact that Hunnyhill Primary School has been saved from closure. It is going to continue to serve the children and young people of this area for many years to come.

It was a very low point in January when we received the devastating news that the Local Council was intending to close Hunnyhill under all three options for reorganization.
Immediately a group of  parents and friends began a campaign to ensure that  minds were changed.

Our school was opened in 1896 and no one was prepared to sit back and just allow that decision to come to fruition with out putting up a noisy and sometimes very angry fight. Petitions were signed and letters were delivered to Councilor Pugh,. Many of us joined the marches and attended public meetings to have our say.

Finally after six long months, our determination, representation and at times downright  stubbornness paid off and we got the news that our school  had been saved.
HUNNYHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL will move  onto a new site just across the road.
This is a fantastic result for all of us. It means that the school we have all worked so hard to achieve will continue for many years to come.

Children will continue to receive the standard of education that they so richly deserve and we will continue to have a building for our community to use.

FANTASTIC, WELL DONE EVERYONE
